PRAYER AND WORSHIP is the primary place that we encounter God, glorify Him, become more like Him, and are empowered to live out His purposes for our lives. This becomes all the more critical at a time where we see in our nation both rising pressures and a growing spiritual awakening. This Furnace Week is a chance to take a step forward in prayer (and maybe fasting) as individuals and as a church. Here’s how:

  • Track with the prayer theme for each day in personal prayer, using the prompts and prayers in the Furnace Prayer Sheet (see below)

  • Consider throwing in a bit of fasting too! You could fast from something all week, or perhaps from food on the suggested corporate fast days of Monday & Thursday.

  • Come and be part of some or all of the evening prayer meetings from Monday 26th to Friday 30th Jan at The Well.

  • Gather with churches from across Sheffield in prayer and worship at Seek First (Saturday 31st, Sheffield Cathedral 7pm)

Furnace Prayer Sheet:

Here’s a helpful tool that you can use during Furnace week and in any moment of prayer: the P.R.A.Y. steps…

Pause

Pause to be still; to breathe slowly; to re-centre your scattered senses upon the presence of God.

Rejoice & Reflect

Reflect on who God is, what He has done, His goodness in your life; begin to thank Him and choose to rejoice in it all.

Ask

Share your heart and your needs with Him; the needs of others around you; the needs of the wider world - Sheffield, UK, the nations….

Yield

Listen to what He is saying; ask Him how you should respond; write down anything that needs actioning or further reflection
