THURSDAY 9 April
MORNING PRAYERS (Ruth Smith - lead, Latifah Makuyi - worship)
The Fourth word: “I thirst!” (John 19:28)
In this passage we see that Jesus is physically thirsty but we also see that in declaring his thirst he was also fulfilling scriptures
" Later, knowing that all was now completed, and so that the Scripture would be fulfilled, Jesus said, "I am thirsty." A jar of wine vinegar was there, so they soaked a sponge in it, put the sponge on a stalk of the hyssop plant, and lifted it to Jesus' lips." (John 19:28-29)
What Scripture was fulfilled here? A Psalm of lamentation, written by David, seems to have been fulfilled literally in Jesus:
"They put gall in my food
and gave me vinegar for my thirst." (Psalm 69:21)
Apparently Jesus asked for something to quench his thirst in order to fulfill Psalm 69:21.
There are hundreds of other scriptures throughout the bible that Jesus fulfilled (feel free to give other examples). All these scriptures point to Jesus and how He is and has always been God’s rescue plan. John 3 v 16 says that God loved us so much that He gave his only son so that whoever believes in him may not die but have eternal life. God had a plan to bring us back into a relationship with him and that plan was always Jesus! Isn’t that Awesome!!! Jesus is the answer! The end goal. Because of Him we can experience real life! Life in all it’s fullness (even when we are in lockdown!) That is worth celebrating and being thankful for.
Materials needed at home: paper, pens, Families may want to also have paints and drawing utensils handy.
Creative response during some worship:
Spend some time thanking Jesus! Love, Life, Peace, Joy, Hope etc are only found in Him. We have access to everything we need in the one who is literally all we need. Lets spend time thanking Him. Feel free to write, paint or draw what you are thankful for.
